  5. Thank you for purchasing the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  6. TankTop CD-ROM Kit.  We have included this ReadMe 
  7. file to let you know some of the things that
  8. did not make it into our pre-printed materials 
  9. or are important enough to mention again.  Please 
  10. read through the brief descriptions, then get started 
  11. finding out how to make your very own fashion 
  12. accessories.

  15. IF YOU ARE USING A PC:
  16.  
  17. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE:
  18. You may encounter problems during installation if there
  19. are other applications running at the time you try to
  20. install the software.  If you do have a problem, exit the
  21. Fashion Magic(TM) TankTop CD-ROM Kit installation and shut 
  22. down other applications that are running.  Run the 
  23. installation again.

  25. RE-BOOTING YOUR SYSTEM:
  26. If you encounter problems when using this software, 
  27. it is best to re-boot the system to eliminate any 
  28. accumulated memory problems.

  30. SHUTTING DOWN THE SYSTEM WHILE RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
  31. If you shut down the system while running the program,
  32. the software will be terminated without saving your
  33. current designs.

  35. CHANGING THE MONITOR COLOR DEPTH:
  36. To improve the appearance of the software on your
  37. monitor, you should set the monitor depth to 16-bit
  38. or higher.  To do this, click on the START menu, 
  39. choose SETTINGS and select CONTROL PANEL.  Double
  40. click on DISPLAY.  Choose SETTINGS and change
  41. the COLOR PALETTE to HIGH COLOR (or TRUE COLOR).

  43. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR ANY SOUNDS:
  44. If you are not hearing any music or other sounds while
  45. running the program, first check to see that your speakers
  46. are turned on and the volume is turned up.  Then, check
  47. that the music is on by clicking on the Music Note at the
  48. top of the screen and select Tracks 1-5.  If you still 
  49. don't hear sounds, try changing your "Sound Out" settings
  50. within QuickTime(R) by following these steps:
  51. 1.  Click on the Start/Settings/Control Panel
  52. 2.  Double click on the QuickTime(R) icon
  53. 3.  Click on the pull down menu and select "Sound Out"
  54. 4.  From Choose a device for playback:, select "waveOut"
  55. 5.  Exit the QuickTime(R) settings

  57. IF YOU EXPERIENCE OTHER SOUND PROBLEMS:
  58. If you experience choppy sound on your system, you can
  59. adjust the size of the sound buffer QuickTime(R) uses.
  60. To adjust the size of the sound buffers, you need to:
  61. 1.  Click on the Start/Settings/Control Panel
  62. 2.  Double click on the QuickTime(R) icon
  63. 3.  Click on the pull down menu and select "Sound Out"
  64. 4.  Select the waveOut or DirectSound(R) device
  65. (depending on what is installed on your system)
  66. 5.  Click on the Options button at the bottom of the
  67. control panel.
  68. 6.  Try increasing the values (if set at 60, try 120 then
  69. 180, etc.)
  70. 7.  Keep adjusting the settings until the audio problem
  71. is corrected.

  73. PROGRAM FREEZES OR LOCKS UP:
  74. Try adjusting your graphics acceleration:
  75. 1.  Right click on "My Computer" located on your
  76. desktop and select "Properties"
  77. 2.  Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the
  78. "Performance" tab.
  79. 3.  Click on the "Graphics" button.
  80. 4.  Within the "Advanced Graphics Setting", adjust your
  81. graphics acceleration to the "basic" setting.
  82. 5.  Click on "OK" and restart your computer for the
  83. changes to take effect.

  85. LOST PRINTER COMMUNICATION
  86. If you get a dialog box saying that 2-way 
  87. communication with your printer has been lost 
  88. (most commonly seen on the HP(R) DeskJet(R) 600 
  89. series), try quitting the software, re-booting 
  90. your computer, re-starting the software, and 
  91. turning off the music in the program before trying 
  92. to print again. To turn off the music, click on 
  93. the Music Note at the top of the screen and 
  94. select None.

  96. AUTO PLAY FEATURE INTERRUPTS SOFTWARE WHILE 
  97. ALREADY PLAYING:
  98. Try disabling the Auto Play feature:
  99. 1.  Right click on "My Computer" located on your
  100. desktop and select "Properties".
  101. 2.  Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the
  102. "Device Manager" tab.
  103. 3.  Click on the plus sign of your CD-ROM icon to
  104. display your type of CD-ROM drive.
  105. 4.  Click once on your type of CD-ROM drive.
  106. 5.  Click on "Properties".
  107. 6.  Click on the "Setting" tab.
  108. 7.  If "Auto insert notification" is checked, click to
  109. uncheck the Auto Play feature.
  110. 8.  Click OK to exit.

  112. THE MUSIC DOES NOT TURN OFF:
  113. On rare occasions, when you click "None" from the
  114. dialog box nothing happens and music continues playing.
  115. If you want to turn the music off, click to go to another 
  116. screen and turn the music off at that screen.

  118. LOADING PHOTO CD FILES INTO THE PHOTOS FOLDER:
  119. For best results, copy only the numbered PCD
  120. files (such as 00001.PCD) into the PHOTOS folder.
  121. Browse through the Photo CD to find the numbered
  122. image files with the .PCD file extension (commonly
  123. in a folder called "IMAGES").  Check the small previews
  124. of your photos on the Photo CD cover for how the photo
  125. files were numbered. Photo files are often very large
  126. so you should copy only those files that you want to
  127. use in the software to the PHOTOS folder in the
  128. FASHION MAGIC(TM) folder.  It's always a good
  129. idea to rename the files with a name that will be easier
  130. to identify.

  132. USING SCANNERS AND DIGITAL CAMERAS ON THE PC:
  133. If nothing happens after you've selected your device, try
  134. using the Alt-Tab keys to bring your scanner software to
  135. the foreground.
  136.  
  137. If your scanner or camera is not TWAIN compatible or you
  138. are having trouble getting your files into the design 
  139. directly from the scanner or camera, you can still import
  140. your photos into the software. Simply use your scanner or 
  141. camera software to create the files, then save the files 
  142. as JPEG, PICT, or TIFFs. Copy these files into the 
  143. PHOTO or ARTSTUFF folder in the Fashion Magic(TM) folder. 
  144. Now you can import the images into the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  145. TankTop CD-ROM Kit software by clicking on the Camera on 
  146. the left side of the screen, then clicking on the Computer 
  147. Tab above the scroll box to see the folders and files on 
  148. your hard drive.

  150. MY DESIGN TAKES A LONG TIME TO PRINT:
  151. You may experience very slow printing when your
  152. monitor depth is set to 256-colors.  If available,change
  153. your monitor settings to a higher color depth to speed 
  154. the printing.  Also, designs that have a lot of graphics 
  155. or photos can also take longer to print.  To change your
  156. monitor color depth, click on the Start menu and choose
  157. Settings and then Control Panel.  Double click on Display.
  158. Choose settings and change the color palette to high 
  159. color (or true color).

  163. IF YOU ARE USING A MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER:

  170. PROBLEMS INSTALLING OR RUNNING THE SOFTWARE:
  171. Some systems may be unable to auto install or run if
  172. File Sharing is "on". Go to the APPLE(R) menu and then 
  173. to CONTROL PANELS/FILE SHARING. Turn File Sharing "off".  
  174. Also be sure that total available RAM is greater 
  175. than 40 MB.

  177. MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER MEMORY REQUIREMENTS:
  178. Fashion Magic(TM) TankTop CD-ROM Kit requires a 
  179. minimum of 24MB of available RAM on a Macintosh(R) 
  180. Computer.  If you have other programs running, close 
  181. them first.  If your system has less than the required 
  182. 24 MB, you'll need to turn on virtual memory. From the 
  183. Control Panel, open Memory, turn on virtual memory, 
  184. and set the memory to approximately 40 MBs (some 
  185. systems may need to be set higher). This should 
  186. allow enough memory to run the System software, 
  187. TankTop CD-ROM Kit, and a print monitor. 
  188.  
  189. If you have enough physical RAM available on your 
  190. system (over 32 MB), turn virtual memory off to 
  191. improve the performance of TankTop CD-ROM Kit software.

  193. THE BOX BEHIND THE TEXT IS PRINTING INCORRECTLY:
  194. You may see some "banding" in the box behind the text in
  195. your design due to a conflict with certain video drivers
  196. when the monitor is set to millions of colors. To fix the
  197. printing problem, change the monitor setting to THOUSANDS 
  198. OF COLORS (see below).

  200. CHANGING THE MONITOR COLOR DEPTH:
  201. To improve the performance of the software, you should
  202. set the monitor depth to THOUSANDS OF COLORS.  To do this,
  203. click on the Apple(R) Menu and choose the CONTROL PANEL 
  204. and select monitors.  Set the color depth to thousands of 
  205. colors.

  207. USING SCANNERS AND DIGITAL CAMERAS ON 
  208. A MACINTOSH(R) COMPUTER:
  209. Only scanners and digital cameras that are fully TWAIN
  210. compliant can be used directly within Fashion Magic(TM)
  211. TankTop CD-ROM Kit.  Many Macintosh(R) scanners use 
  212. PhotoShop(R) plug-ins which are not an open standard.  
  213.  
  214. If your scanner or camera is not TWAIN compatible or you
  215. are having trouble getting your files into the design 
  216. directly from the scanner or camera, you can still import
  217. your photos into the software. Simply use your scanner or 
  218. camera software to create the files, then save the files 
  219. as JPEG, PICT, or TIFFs. Copy these files into the 
  220. PHOTOS or ARTSTUFF folder in the Fashion Magic(TM) folder. 
  221. Now you can import the images into the Fashion Magic(TM) 
  222. TankTop CD-ROM Kit software by clicking on the Camera on
